Israeli tanks seemingly penetrate Rafah's core.
There's a lot of buzz going around about Israel's military operation in Rafah, especially their planned ground offensive. People are talking about seeing tanks right in the heart of the city situated in the southern Gaza Strip. Not only that, but there are also reports of more air strikes.
Despite the harsh criticism from around the world, Israel isn't holding back. They're still going hard with their offensive in Rafah, which is located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Witnesses report seeing Israeli tanks taking over the middle of the city. Some of these tanks were even spotted near the well-known Al-Awda Mosque, right in the heart of the city. The city was again bombarded, this time with both tanks and air strikes. The Israeli military has yet to speak out on this and have promised to make a statement about the situation in Rafah later.
Residents of Tel Al-Sultan district, where at least 45 people lost their lives in a Palestinian air strike at a refugee camp for displaced persons last Sunday, are saying the area is still being attacked. "Explosions from tank shells are everywhere in Tel Al-Sultan," a resident shared using a chat app. "Many families have left their homes in the western part of Rafah, which were shelled all night."
Officials from the Gaza Strip, which is under the rule of the radical-Islamic group, Hamas, say at least 16 Palestinians were killed during the night time attacks. However, these numbers can't be confirmed independently. Reports claim that Israeli tanks have taken up positions on and around Surub hill, a hill that provides a good view of the western side of Rafah.
Since the beginning of May, over a million people have fled Rafah due to Israel's offensive. This is according to the UN refugee agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). Before that, more than a million Palestinians had fled to Rafah in search of safety from the fighting in the rest of the Gaza Strip.
Israel has carried on with their attacks despite a ruling by the International Court of Justice last Friday demanding an immediate stop to the controversial offensive in Rafah. The International Court of Justice itself had ordered Israel last Friday to cease the offensive in Rafah. The Israeli army had set off the long-threatened ground offensive in Rafah at the start of the month. The city is seen as the last stronghold of Hamas, who kicked off the Gaza War with their attack on Israel on October 7.

The ongoing Israeli war in Rafah, located in the Gaza Strip, has resulted in Israeli tanks being seen in the city's core, causing further tension and casualties. The international community, including the International Court of Justice, has actively urged Israel to cease their offensive in Rafah, which is significant in the context of ongoing Wars and conflicts.
