Julia Roberts - Is the "Pretty Woman" couple still happy?
Would Edward Lewis, the millionaire businessman from the legendary 1990 romance film "Pretty Woman", be long dead today? Leading actress Julia Roberts (56) can well imagine that.
Roberts believes Vivian is now running Edward's business
In an interview with "CBS Mornings", the actress spoke about what would have happened to the characters in some of her best-known films. She predicts a bittersweet ending for "Pretty Woman" and the fairytale relationship between former prostitute Vivian and wealthy businessman Edward (played by Richard Gere, 74). "I think he died peacefully in his sleep of a heart attack, with a smile on his face," she explained to presenter Gayle King (68), shocking some fans who might still be hoping for a sequel. However, the Vivian she played is still alive: "And now she runs his business."
Other creative ideas from the actress
The Oscar winner gave other "Where would they be today?" predictions for more of her most memorable characters. Regarding Daisy and Beau Charles from "Pizza, Pizza - A Slice of Heaven" (1988), she said, "Let's hope they're still together and have some cute little kids." The movie "My Best Friend's Wedding" (1997), on the other hand, ended exactly as it should have, in Roberts' opinion. Julianne's love for Michael remains unrequited: "No, he's married and faithful to his wife. And George and Julianne start a do-it-yourself show on HGTV and become incredibly famous," she joked.
In 1999, she made another movie with Richard Gere, "The Bride Who Wouldn't Marry". What would have happened to the two of them after the movie ended? "Maggie literally rides off into the sunset with Richard Gere after leaving four other men at the altar." This time, however, Gere's character doesn't have to die: "They're going to stay together."
And what about the 1999 cult film "Notting Hill", in which she played a famous actress alongside Hugh Grant (63)? Anna, Roberts imagined, has left Hollywood behind to look after a large flock of children in London. "She's retired. She has six children and has kept her waist size amazingly well," said the 56-year-old. Her boyfriend William still runs his bookshop, and Anna also runs a small knitting department.
