Intrigue experts take over "Harry Potter" helm
2026 is the year the first part of the much-anticipated "Harry Potter" series is set to debut on HBO's Streaming Service Max. It's now official who will bring the new adventures of Harry, Ron, and Hermione to life. The choice falls on a duo that is particularly skilled in intrigue.
At Hogwarts School of Magic, intrigue may soon be added to the curriculum. According to the US industry website "Deadline," for the highly anticipated HBO series based on the magical child Harry Potter, a duo has been hired that has cultivated deceit in series form: According to the report, screenwriter Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, who previously were pillars of success for the series "Succession," will be responsible for the "Harry Potter" series.
Gardiner reportedly outmaneuvered her competition - Tom Moran and Kathleen Jordan ("Teenage Bounty Hunters") - in the race for the position of showrunner. She will also serve as executive producer of the currently untitled "Harry Potter" series. Besides "Succession," where she joined in season three, Gardiner has already earned her series credentials with "Killing Eve" and "Crossing Lines."
Experienced Director Takes Charge
Director Mylod, who has directed over a dozen episodes of the critically acclaimed drama series starring Brian Cox, is set to bring a portion of the new adventures of Harry Potter and his friends to the screen. Mylod also previously sat in the director's chair for "Game of Thrones" and "The Last of Us," according to "Deadline." Like Gardiner, he is also reportedly set to be an executive producer.
The series "Succession," which revolves around the power struggle within a wealthy family over their media empire, was also produced by HBO. The series has received a total of 13 Emmys, including in 2020 and 2022 as "Best Drama Series."
Warner Brothers has been working on the "Harry Potter" series reboot for several months, which is being produced for HBO's Streaming Service Max. As "Variety" reported, the first part of the series is expected to be released in 2026 on the platform. David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, revealed this during the quarterly investors' conference in February. Further details about the project are still unknown.
Entertainment abounds as the first part of the anticipated "Harry Potter" series, directed by Mark Mylod, is scheduled to premier on HBO's Streaming Service Max in 2026. Notably, Mylod has directed episodes for hit shows like "Game of Thrones" and "Succession," and will also serve as an executive producer for the series.
