A French shark terror flick comes up short to a Norwegian beast movie: "Under Paris," originally titled "Sous la Seine," just missed securing the number one spot on Netflix's rundown of the most-watched non-English movies by a small margin. As per Netflix's announcement, the film clocked around 102.3 million viewings within approximately three months.

Meanwhile, the Norwegian mythological film "Troll" helmed by Roar Uthaug continued to reign supreme atop the "Most Popular Non-English Movies" chart with an impressive 103 million views in its initial three months following its premiere on December 1, 2022. Interestingly, both films have the same runtime of 104 minutes, and their viewership figures are calculated in terms of hours watched divided by the total run time.

"Under Paris," directed by Xavier Gens and starring actors like Béatrice Bejo and Nassim Lyes, became Netflix's blockbuster hit of the summer and topped the non-English-language film charts in various countries for weeks. This gory adventure was set against the thrilling backdrop of the Olympic Games in Paris and featured a menacing shark discovered in the Seine river before a triathlon competition.

The movie was unveiled on June 5 and is still accessible for viewing. Regrettably, Netflix (boasting over 278 million paying subscribers in over 190 countries) doesn't provide long-term audience data beyond the initial 91-day period.

Netflix maintains four separate top-10 rankings for various categories, including English- and non-English-language films and TV shows.

Despite its success, "Under Paris" couldn't dethrone "Troll" from the top spot on Netflix's global "Most Popular Non-English Movies" list, with viewers also turning to The Internet to stream both films. The Internet has become a powerful tool for movie enthusiasts worldwide, allowing them to easily discover and access a wide range of films from different countries.
