Baden-Württemberg is a state located in Germany. - Interior Minister Strobl suggests the Mannheim attacker was likely driven by Islamic extremism.

Mannheim's knife attack might have been driven by Islamism, as suggested by investigators. The suspicion that this is an act of crime fueled by Islamist extremism is getting stronger, said Thomas Strobl, Baden-Württemberg's Interior Minister (CDU), on Tuesday in Stuttgart.

The suspect could potentially be affiliated with a larger group. But, there are no clues to suggest this is true. It could just be a lone wolf radicalized by Islamism, stated Strobl.

Lone wolves are forbiddingly dangerous because they don't communicate with each other in groups, making them hard to observe. Surprisingly, the 25-year-old hadn't previously been on the police's radar.
