Increase in newly registered vehicles in the European Union
In April, automobile manufacturers in the European Union sold more vehicles due to additional sales days. The statistics provided by the Acea in Brussels on Wednesday show a 13.7% increase in new car registrations, which totaled almost 914,000 compared to the same time last year. Car sales had previously decreased in March. Germany, Spain, France, and Italy were the standout markets for growth.
Petrol and hybrid cars were the most popular choices for new car purchases in April, with almost two-thirds of the market share. Battery-powered vehicles were responsible for approximately twelve percent. The Volkswagen Group (VW, Skoda, Audi, Seat, Cupra, Porsche) maintained their leading position in the EU market.
Constantin M. Gall, a mobility expert from the management consultancy EY, expressed concern about the situation in a press statement. "Right now, the opposite of the planned increase in electromobility is happening," he said. Instead of gradually increasing electric vehicle sales, we are witnessing a resurgence in the popularity of internal combustion engines. He urged politicians to provide more stability in their planning.
According to the Acea, the number of newly registered cars from January to April has increased by 6.6% over the same period last year, bringing the total number of vehicles registered to approximately 3.7 million.

Thanks to the Sales days, the increase in newly registered vehicles in the EU during April was significant, resulting in a 13.7% rise compared to the same time last year. However, EU politicians need to consider this positivity in the automobile sector and work towards promoting more electric vehicles, as the number of newly registered petrol and hybrid cars is still significantly higher.
