ARD correspondent - Ina Ruck is the "Journalist of the Year"
ARD's Moscow correspondent Ina Ruck (61) is named "Journalist of the Year" by "Medium Magazin" in 2023. "Despite state reprisals and the risk of being arrested as an "enemy agent", Ina Ruck tirelessly conveys impressions, background information and facts that give us a realistic view of Putin's Russia - a country that no longer has a free press," said the jury, explaining their choice.
"The way she masters the balancing act between the duty to inform and the "unspeakable" is impressive." The industry magazine has been awarding the unendowed "Journalist of the Year" prize since 2004.
The jury once again selected winners in almost a dozen other categories. Journalist Philipp Peyman Engel ("Jüdische Allgemeine") received the prize for "Editor-in-Chief of the Year" in the "national" category and the duo from the "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" in the "regional" category: Carsten Fiedler and Sarah Brasack.
Claus Kleber (68) was honored in the "Lifetime achievement" category. He has "left a lasting mark on German television as a foreign correspondent and TV anchor": "For 18 years, he presented the "Heute-Journal" on ZDF with his very own, unmistakable Kleber style: a mixture of serious news reporting, profound humor and a composure that only those who can do a lot can afford."
