A Canadian fugitive has been apprehended in a wellness hotel in the Philippines after allegedly smuggling 1.4 tons of methamphetamine into the Southeast Asian country.
The synthetic drugs, worth 9.68 billion pesos (155 million euros), were confiscated in April at a checkpoint in Alitagtag, Batangas province. Methamphetamine is commonly referred to as "shabu" in the Philippines.
The 56-year-old suspect was taken into custody in a hotel located south of Manila. Four plastic bags filled with methamphetamine, cocaine, and other illicit substances were found on him. Additionally, 14 counterfeit IDs were confiscated by authorities. Authorities had been searching for the Canadian since another suspect was arrested alongside the drugs at the checkpoint.

The seized crystalline methamphetamine, equating to over 155 million euros, is one of the largest drug confiscations in the Philippines' history. The apprehended Canadian is expected to face charges for trafficking such substantial tons of Meth in the country.
