In northern Italy, a river sweeps away three individuals who have become missing.
Three individuals, two women and a man, have vanished after being swept away by the surging waters of Italy's Natisone River in the town of Premariacco. This incident occurred during a day of intense rainfall in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Firefighters, civil protection teams, and mountain rescue units are currently at the site, searching for the missing individuals.
The Nazisone River rose rapidly due to heavy rain throughout the day, flooding areas near Udine. The exact reason behind the three individuals' presence at the river is currently unknown, as is the speed at which the water level rose. The river can be quite dangerous, as it quickly rises when a substantial amount of rain falls. Reports indicate that there were severe storms in the northeastern region of Italy since Thursday, further increasing the risk of flooding.
Witnesses spotted the three people in the water and shouted for help. The onlookers attempted to save them by throwing a rope from a nearby bridge. However, the force of the current made it impossible for the three to hold on, ultimately pulling them apart. Footage circulating on social media showed the desperate attempts by the three to cling onto each other before being swept away by the torrent.
Meanwhile, authorities in Germany are bracing for potential flooding as well. With the continuous downpour and the expected heightened water level, the district of Günzburg in Bavaria issued a disaster alert on Friday. The move aims to better assist any affected cities and municipalities, as per the district administration's representative.
