Potential mishap during trekking - In Argentina, searchers found a corpse while trying to locate a lost German individual.
Rescue teams in western Argentina have retrieved what is believed to be the body of a 19-year-old woman, thought to be a missing German national. The rescuers conveyed the deceased to the local mortuary for identification at the request of media outlet "La Nacion" yesterday.
Argentina: Recovering the Body
The teenager went missing from Cerro de las Tres Marias mountain, located in San Juan's province, after she didn't return from a hike on Thursday. Images from a surveillance camera showed her exiting a bus, crossing the road, and starting her ascent towards the mountain's peak.
Extreme weather had made the rescue operation challenging in recent days. However, on Monday, a helicopter search party came across the lifeless body of a young woman in the ravine below. The rescuers subsequently trekked down into the gully and retrieved the body.
The tragic incident is believed to have possibly occurred due to her getting surprised by unfavorable weather, losing her way, and falling. The actual cause of her death remains undetermined.
The young woman's parents, who had flown in from Germany, spoke to Argentine television channel TN. They expressed their gratitude to all those involved in the search for their daughter. The family had been unclear about her exact location in Germany initially.
The young woman had come to Argentina as a volunteer for the international exchange program Youth For Understanding (YFU). In a poignant statement on Instagram, YFU expressed their deepest sympathies to the family and shared their anguish.
"In this tough moment, we are with her family," the statement read. "We offer our condolences to them."
