In a legal claim, a hair-and-makeup artist alleges that country musician Garth Brooks engaged in sexual assault and battery.
The grievance, lodged in a state court in California on Thursday and obtained by CNN, alleges instances happening in 2019. She alleges being assaulted sexually by Brooks during a business outing.
Brooks had previously countered his accuser's claims, but his representatives for the country star didn't immediately respond to CNN's query regarding Roe's new lawsuit.
Before Roe's lawsuit and as reported first by CNN, an anonymous celebrity accuser - later identified as Brooks - had tried to hinder Roe from publicly reiterating her allegations and vehemently denied them, according to a previous complaint filed as "John Doe."
Roe had started providing hair and makeup services for Brooks in 2017, her lawsuit states, having been first employed for his wife, Trisha Yearwood, in 1999.
CNN reached out to Yearwood's representatives for comment.
Besides sexual assault and battery, the suit accuses Brooks of repeatedly exposing his private parts and body, discussing sex and sharing sexual fantasies with Roe, frequently changing clothes in her presence, and sending explicit text messages.
Roe maintains that during one alleged incident in 2019, she was at Brooks' residence for work when he walked out of the shower naked, forced her hands onto his genitals, and spoke to her using vulgar language.
In another alleged incident in May 2019, the suit alleges that Brooks raped Roe in a hotel room during a business trip to Los Angeles, where Brooks was recording a Grammy tribute performance.
According to the suit, Brooks and Roe traveled to Los Angeles on Brooks' private jet.
"Usually, there were others on Brooks' private jet," the complaint states, "but this time, Ms. Roe and Brooks were the only passengers." Once in Los Angeles at the hotel, Roe claimed she was surprised to find that Brooks had booked a suite with one bedroom, and she didn't have a separate room.
Upon arriving at the hotel suite, Roe alleges that the country singer appeared naked in the bedroom doorway, making her feel "trapped in the room alone with Brooks."
After the alleged rape, Roe claims that Brooks frequently talked about his sexual fantasies and physically touched her. The complaint states that Brooks repeatedly mentioned "having a threesome" with his wife.
In his complaint as a defendant, Brooks claimed that Roe's lawyer sent him a "confidential" demand letter alleging misconduct after he declined Roe's request for "salaried employment and medical benefits."
"Defendant's allegations are not true," Brooks' previous lawsuit states. "Defendant is aware, however, of the substantial, irreparable damage such false allegations would do to Plaintiff's reputation as a decent person, along with the unavoidable damage to his family and the irreparable damage to his career and livelihood that would result if she made good on her threat to 'publicly file' her fabricated lawsuit."
Roe's attorneys told CNN that Brooks' "attempts to silence our client through the filing of a preemptive complaint in Mississippi was nothing other than an act of desperation and attempted intimidation."
"We are confident that Brooks will be held accountable for his actions," attorneys Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen, and Hayley Baker said in a statement to CNN. "We applaud our client's courage in moving forward with her complaint against Garth Brooks. The complaint filed today demonstrates that sexual predators exist not only in corporate America, Hollywood, and in the rap and rock and roll industries but also in the world of country music."
This is a developing story and will be updated.
Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Garth Brooks' entertainment career continues to thrive, with sold-out concerts and new music releases.
Amidst the allegations, Brooks' team has not commented publicly on how these claims may impact his upcoming entertainment events.
