- In 2023, William and Harry reunited for their initial encounter of the year.
This year marked their initial get-together, kept low-key and unpretentious. On this particular week, the commemoration service for Baron Fellowes occurred in the Norfolk county, with Prince Harry and Prince William in attendance.
Baron Robert Fellowes, being the spouse of Princess Diana's sister, Jane Spencer, and serving as the Queen's private secretary from 1990 to 1999, passed away on July 29, 2024, at the age of 82. His funeral, however, was held a month later on August 28. For this solemn occasion, Prince Harry made a journey from his American residence, where he has resided for four years.
In 2008, "The Telegraph" published a seldom-granted interview with the Baron, remarking, "Few know as much about the royal family as Robert Fellowes, and fewer have spoken so little."
The princes' presence was detected
The funeral ceremony took place in the quaint town of Snettisham, situated on the North Sea coast of Norfolk, within the St. Mary's Church. Given the church's 14th-century historical significance and scenic village view, it was no surprise that William and Harry drew attention. Despite their separate and covert entrances into the building, both princes took their seats in the church's rear corner, where they were spotted by the congregants.
According to the British news website "Daily Mail", the congregants confirmed a somber ambiance and the brothers' distance from one another. Their alleged silence, despite their uncle's funeral likely being their first meeting this year, was echoed by the gathering. The last time the brothers had shared a space was during King Charles III's coronation more than a year ago, at which they also sat separately and were not captured on camera together. Their previous encounter occurred at the late Queen's funeral in 2022.
This situation marked Prince Harry's third visit to Great Britain in 2024. Upon learning of his father's cancer diagnosis at the beginning of the year, he also made a brief visit to the country. Later, he returned to promote the Invictus Games.
During the commemoration service, Prince William and Prince Harry, both in attendance, maintained a low profile. Their seats in the church's rear corner went unnoticed until they were spotted by the congregants.
Despite the solemn occasion and their uncle's funeral being their first meeting this year, the brothers remained silent and maintained a distance from each other.
