Hutchins-Family fights on against Baldwin
The setting of the criminal proceedings against Alec Baldwin for involuntary manslaughter leaves the family of the "Rust" set camera woman Halyna Hutchins perplexed. They now intend to fight for "justice" with a civil lawsuit.
The criminal proceedings against actor Baldwin for the fatal shooting of camera woman Halyna Hutchins were surprisingly dismissed at the court two days ago due to a procedural error. Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer justified this decision by stating that the defense had intentionally withheld evidence. Had Baldwin been convicted, he faced up to 18 months in prison. The actor left the courthouse as a free man. Sommer ordered that the proceedings against him could not be re-rolled.
However, Baldwin had only a brief reason to celebrate. At the Santa Fe courthouse, attorney Gloria Allred declared to "CBS News" that the dismissal of the criminal proceedings against Alec Baldwin for involuntary manslaughter "only confirms that we will seek justice in the civil process." They are determined, "in the civil suit we have filed against him in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to exercise justice." Allred represents the parents and the sister of the deceased camera woman.
Halyna Hutchins was fatally injured by a bullet from a firearm pointed at her by Baldwin on the set of the film "Rust" in October 2021. The responsible armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was already sentenced to 18 months in prison in April for involuntary manslaughter. It remains unclear why the weapon was loaded with live ammunition. Baldwin had claimed that he had not pulled the trigger.
Family to fight "until the end"
Attorney Gloria Allred made it clear that the news of the dismissed criminal proceedings against Baldwin was "devastating for the family," who grieve for Halyna every day, and that they intend to "fight until the end." According to media reports, the attorney also stated that she was "determined" to hold Baldwin and the entire "Rust" production accountable in the civil lawsuit. Civil lawsuits are not affected by the court's decision not to re-roll the proceedings.
Allred does not represent Halyna Hutchins' husband, Matthew Hutchins, who withdrew his lawsuit, which he had filed in 2022. He reportedly stated to the media that he believed his wife's death was an "unfortunate accident."
Despite the dismissal of the criminal charges against Alec Baldwin, death cases related to Halyna Hutchins' tragic shooting continue to dominate Entertainment news. In the ongoing civil lawsuit, Gloria Allred, representing Hutchins' family, vows to pursue 'justice' through rigorous processes.
