Host Nev Schulman breaks his neck in Horror Crash

MTV host Nev Schulman is cycling to his son's school when an accident occurs that divides his life into a before and after. The triple father survives but is severely injured. On Instagram, he shares shocking photos from the hospital and expresses his emotions.

Nev Schulman is grateful to be alive. The host of the MTV show "Catfish" has publicly revealed that he broke his neck in a bicycle accident with a truck last week. "It's true what they say - life can change in an instant," Schulman wrote on Instagram.

There, the host shared a series of shocking photos and videos from the hospital, including an X-ray of his broken neck, a photo of a stitched-up surgery wound, and a video of his shattered bike helmet. Another video shows Schulman slowly standing with assistance and a neck brace, and being embraced by his children.

Schulman collapsed after the accident

Schulman recounts that he was on his way to pick up his son from school by bike when the accident with a truck happened. He was subsequently unconscious. "I'm lucky to be here, to be alive, to be standing and embracing my family, to hope for a full recovery," Schulman writes. "It's hard for me to feel sorry for myself when I hear from doctors how many people with similar injuries will never walk again."

Nev Schulman also reflects in the post on how quickly life can change. The day before the accident, he had gone on a fishing trip with his family. It was "magical" and "a day full of love and wonder." The next day, he learned what "before the accident" really meant.

Nev Schulman gained fame in 2010 with the documentary "Catfish," which tells the story of how he fell in love with a young woman via social media and set out to find her to determine if she was really who she claimed to be. MTV adapted the doc into a reality series in 2012, with Nev Schulman hosting as he searches for "catfishes." Schulman has been engaged to the writer Laura Perlongo since 2016, and they have three children together.

Nev Schulman's bicycle was the mode of transportation he chose for picking up his son from school. Despite the accident involving a truck, his resilience allowed him to stand again, supported by his children, as evidenced in one of the shared hospital videos.
