Fritz Wepper - Hospitalized with blood poisoning
Great concern for actor Fritz Wepper: the 82-year-old is currently in hospital due to blood poisoning. Wepper's lawyer Norman Synek confirmed this to the German Press Agency on Tuesday (December 19). The previous evening, the "Bild" newspaper had reported that the actor had been admitted to a Munich hospital two weeks ago and had been there ever since. In the meantime, Wepper is "already on the road to recovery", according to the lawyer's statement.
His brother Elmar Wepper only died in October
It was only at the end of October that his younger brother Elmar Wepper died unexpectedly at the age of 79. Fritz Wepper told the magazine "Bunte" in November: "It was not to be expected, I am full of sadness." The death of his brother, who was also a successful actor, came "out of the blue" - "like a terrible bolt of lightning". The TV star died of an unexpected cardiac arrest.
Shortly before this, Fritz Wepper had published a book together with his wife Susanne Kellermann (49). With the publication of "Nur mit Hund bin ich ein Mensch" (Goldegg-Verlag), Wepper announced his retirement from acting. "This book will be his very last project. Fritz made that very clear. His legacy. It's what he wants to leave behind," said Kellermann in a double interview with "Bild am Sonntag". Fritz Wepper then confirmed in the interview that he had finished acting.
Long battle against cancer
Fritz Wepper has had some difficult times in recent years. At the beginning of 2021, he had to undergo tumor surgery, followed by five months in intensive care. In the summer, he was admitted to a rehabilitation clinic on Lake Tegernsee near Munich.
Fritz Wepper and Susanne Kellermann have been married since 2020. They have a daughter together, who was born in 2011. His daughter Sophie Wepper (42) is from his first marriage to Angela von Morgen (1942-2019).
