Angelina Jolie - Hollywood today "not a healthy place"
Angelina Jolie (48) now looks back on her successful Hollywood career with different and, above all, critical eyes. In an interview with the "Wall Street Journal ", the Oscar winner explained that she probably "wouldn't be an actress today".
Angelina Jolie "never felt Hollywood was important"
"When I started out, it wasn't the big expectation to be so public and share so much," Jolie continues. Although Jolie grew up there and her parents were also actors, Hollywood never made an impression on her. "I never saw it as meaningful or important," explains the mother of six. On the contrary, she felt Hollywood was "not a healthy place".
Today, she is considering leaving her home in Los Angeles. Because there she lacks "a social life". Whenever she leaves her house, there are always paparazzi lurking around. After her divorce from Brad Pitt (59) in 2019, she "lost the opportunity to live and travel so freely", notes Jolie. In future, she hopes to spend more time at her home in Cambodia: "I will move when I can."
Not "been herself" for decades
Since her divorce from Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie has appeared in far fewer films than she used to. She last played the role of the warrior Thena in Marvel's "Eternals" in 2021. In an interview with Vogue in September, she revealed that she had only taken on jobs "that didn't require long filming times". The reason was that she "still had a lot of healing to do". "We're still finding our footing," she said verbatim.
The actress, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the drama "Girl, Interrupted", also revealed that she was feeling "a little down these days". "I don't feel like I've been myself for a decade," Jolie explained.

In her critique of her Hollywood career, Angelina Jolie mentioned that she might not pursue acting if she were starting now, as stated in her interview with the WSJ. Despite growing up in Hollywood and having parents who were actors, Jolie never felt that Hollywood held significant importance or meaning for her. Post-divorce from Brad Pitt, Jolie revealed in an interview with Vogue that she had only taken on film roles with limited filming time due to her need for healing and personal growth.
