Hollywood takes aim at Musk's "demon mode"

Elon Musk's biography has been a huge success, and now the book is to be used as the basis for a Hollywood film. The focus will be on the crazy side of the billionaire. The right director has already been found for the film.

The bestselling biography about high-tech billionaire Elon Musk is being made into a movie. A representative of the production company A24 told the AFP news agency that the company had won a "highly competitive" deal for the rights to Walter Isaacson's book. The director and producer, Darren Aronofsky, has already been confirmed. Aronofsky has already directed films such as "Black Swan" and "The Whale". A24 did not give a schedule for the film.

Isaacson's Musk biography was published in September and, like earlier works by the author about Apple founder Steve Jobs and Leonardo Da Vinci, quickly reached the top of the bestseller lists. The book describes Musk as a man driven by the demons of his childhood and obsessed with putting people on Mars.

Much was already known about Musk's younger years. In the biography, Isaacson focuses on Musk's father Errol, whom the billionaire despises. The book suggests that Musk is driven by something that his former partner Grimes calls "demon mode". According to Isaacson, this makes him very productive.

Musk's chaotic and impulsive takeover of the online service Twitter, which has since been renamed X, also features prominently in the biography. Another recurring theme in the book is Musk's vindictiveness towards doubters and critics.

Aronofsky seems to be the right director for this. The 54-year-old was recently nominated for an Oscar with "The Whale" and is known for his surreal film style, which often contains psychological elements. His other films include "Requiem for a Dream" (2000), "Black Swan" (2010) and "Mother!" (2017). For his work on "Black Swan", Aronofsky was nominated for the Oscar for Best Director, while lead actress Natalie Portman eventually won the award for Best Actress.
