George Clooney on Joe Biden - Hollywood star calls for his retirement

George Clooney (63), a prominent actor, urged US President Joe Biden (81) not to run in the Presidential election. In his New York Times op-ed on July 10, he titled it: "I love Joe Biden. But we need a new candidate."

Clooney has been one of Biden's biggest supporters and donors in Hollywood. He organized a large fundraising gala for his re-election and has been vocal about his support for him. However, his recent call for Biden to withdraw from the Presidential race seems to be related to his appearance at the aforementioned gala.

George Clooney: "We won't win with Biden"

"I love Joe Biden," Clooney begins in his piece. "As a Senator. As Vice President, and as President. I consider him a friend and I believe in him. I believe in his character. I believe in his morals." In the last four years, Biden has won many battles, but the ones he couldn't win were the fight against time. The Biden that Clooney saw at the fundraising gala on June 15 was not the Joe Biden from 2010, who was "a big deal." "He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020," Clooney explains further. "He was the same man we all saw at the debate." With this, the actor refers to the TV debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump (78) at the end of June and the criticism of Biden's performance.

"Our party leaders must stop telling us that 51 million people didn't see what we just saw," Clooney states. "We are all so afraid of the prospect of a second term for Trump that we have decided to ignore all warning signs." The actor warns: "Is it fair to point this out? It has to be. It's about age. About nothing else. But also nothing that can be reversed. With this President, we won't win in November. We will also lose the House of Representatives. And we will lose the Senate." This is not just his opinion, he emphasizes, it's also the opinion of all Senators, Congress members, and Governors he has spoken to in private, and he appeals: "We can either bury our heads in the sand and pray for a miracle in November, or we can tell the truth."
