Kevin Costner, the former husband of Christine Baumgartner (69), has been in the news as divorced since the beginning of the year. In a new interview, the Hollywood star briefly discusses the difficulty of the separation for him. When asked during the "CBS Mornings" show with Gayle King how he was doing after the "very public divorce," Costner replied, "It's a devastating moment. It's huge, it hurt."
Moving Forward After Divorce
However, Costner goes on, he has no choice but to move forward: "My kids look up to me. I can't wilt like a daisy. I have to keep going, I have to continue being who I am - and pay special attention to who they are."
Costner apparently gave this special attention during the filming of his new series "Horizon: An American Saga," in which his son Hayes (15) also stars. Hayes is one of the three children Costner shares with Baumgartner. Despite Baumgartner having no acting experience, Costner believed his son could handle the role. "I was so proud of him," he recalls. The two always went to work together, and it was "a dream." In the US, the first film of the series starts in theaters on June 28, with part two following on August 16. In Germany, the first part will be available from August 22, and the sequel on November 7.
Costner also has four other children from previous relationships. According to US reports from May 2023, Baumgartner, whom he married in 2004, filed for divorce and cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason. A spokesperson for the actor told "TMZ" at the time that Costner regretted the situation and that the circumstances leading to the filing were beyond his control. In February 2024, the US celebrity portal reported that the divorce was now legally binding, citing court records.
Kevin Costner and Jewel are Just Friends
Costner appears to still be single. In a recent conversation with US radio legend Howard Stern, he denied rumors of a supposed relationship with singer Jewel (50): "Jewel and I are friends. We've never gone out together. I don't want these rumors to destroy our friendship, because that's what it is."
