Highest number of right-wing extremist offenses reported in Saxony by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
In a shocking revelation, the number of right-wing extremist crimes in Saxony has soared to an all-time high of 2566 as per the Constitutional Protection Report for 2023. Compared to the 1700 offenses in the year before, the current year has seen a 50% spike in such incidents.
The number of xenophobic crimes also hit a six-year high with 712 registered cases. Notably, crimes against political opponents also witnessed a rise, reaching 222 in total. Propaganda offenses, which include the use of unconstitutional group symbols and incitement to hatred, accounted for 1873 cases in 2023, making up a whopping three-quarters of all crimes. Moreover, 69 violent crimes with a right-wing extremist motivation were recorded - this is 11 more than the previous year.
The Constitutional Protection Report estimates that the Reichsbürger scene in Saxony comprises around 3000 people, a whopping 500 more than the previous year. A 2.9% proportion of these individuals are deemed to be right-wing extremists by the secret service. The Reichsbürger group is notoriously known for its quest to establish a separate state, completely independent of the Federal Republic. Operating in multiple federate states, they have also been acquiring property.
The total number of individuals linked to the right-wing extremist community in Saxony surged to an estimated 5750 last year, up from the previous 4350. The primary driver of this significant increase is the classification of the AfD party and its youth organization Young Alternative (JA) as right-wing extremist ventures.
Conversely, the number of individuals identified with the left-wing extremist scene remained almost consistent at 905, just a marginally higher figure than the previous year's 890. Leipzig, in particular, continues to be a haven for the autonomous scene. The report records a total of 804 left-wing extremist crimes, with 191 of them being violent in nature.

Despite the rising number of criminal offenses, including right-wing extremist crimes and xenophobic acts in Saxony, efforts to protect the constitution and uphold its principles remain a top priority. The maximum value of fines or imprisonment for those committing such offenses serves as a deterrent to curb these activities and promote unity and harmony within the society.
