Sabine Lisicki - Her baby is "the greatest miracle"
In the fall, Sabine Lisicki (34) gives birth to her first child. In an interview with the magazine "Bunte," the tennis player reveals that this is a long-held desire coming true. "I'm thrilled because I'm a true family person. It's always been my dream to have my own family," she gushes. There's "nothing greater," she says, than being pregnant. "I love children," the professional athlete makes clear.
Pregnancy is "hard work"
However, she had imagined pregnancy to be easier; it's hard work. Lisicki has had to deal with unusual fatigue, causing her to sleep three hours a day in the afternoon and go to bed early. "Pregnancy isn't a disease, but a physical challenge," emphasizes the Wimbledon finalist of 2013.
Return to the tennis court is planned
After giving birth to her child, Sabine Lisicki plans to return to professional tennis. "Yes, there will be a comeback," she confirms to the magazine. It's essential for that to happen, she adds, "as long as it's good for my body and I'm totally fit." She dares to admit that she'll continue to play tennis at a high level for a few more years - after 40, however, will be the end.
Tips on how she'll balance tennis with motherhood, she'll receive from colleague Angelique Kerber (36). Kerber made her comeback on the tennis court in December 2023, 18 months after her baby break. Otherwise, Lisicki will be supported by her parents and her partner in caring for the child when she's on the court.
Romantic proposal
Who the father of her child is, Sabine Lisicki continues to keep a secret. He doesn't come from the tennis business. In the interview, she manages to extract a few words about her engagement. "My boyfriend got down on one knee, it was a beautiful ritual," she recalls.
Sabine Lisicki's pregnancy has been more challenging than anticipated, with fatigue requiring her to nap in the afternoon and go to bed early. Despite this, she is excited about becoming a mother, as she has always dreamt of having a family. After giving birth, Lisicki intends to return to professional tennis, provided it's beneficial for her physical well-being.
