Helene Fischer sings "Breathless" with Shirin David
"Atemlos durch die Nacht" is and remains Helene Fischer's biggest hit. Do we really need a new version? With a rap interlude? And with Shirin David as a duet partner? The fans of the pop queen are at least divided on the subject.
It has already been announced as a highlight of Thomas Gottschalk's latest edition of "Wetten, dass...?" on Saturday: Helene Fischer will duet with Shirin David. Together, the two will perform the hit of all hits by the pop queen: "Atemlos durch die Nacht".
However, it will not be the original version of the song, which was first released in 2013. Instead, the two singers have now announced a new version on Instagram to mark the tenth anniversary of the song, which will be released in full on Thursday. The duo present a foretaste of this in a video.
In the clip, 28-year-old David raves about her eleven-year-older colleague. Fischer is "such a huge inspiration" for her, explains David, who has become known as an influencer with make-up tips. She feels honored to be a part of the new edition, in which she has now taken on a longer rap part. "This is a huge dream. Every female artist in Germany dreams of working with you," says David towards Fischer.

The 39-year-old is grateful for the praise. "I think she's incredibly great as a person. I like her as an artist," says Fischer about David. For her, her colleague was the first and only choice for the project. "She is a pioneer in German rap," says Fischer and explains that the duet gives "Atemlos durch die Nacht" a completely new meaning. "I'm totally celebrating that."
However, not all of the pop queen's fans see it that way. Although many in the comments section on the post cheer with comments such as "Simply awesome" or "Best combo ever", there are also many critical voices among them. "Please don't do this Shirin, she has no style," is one of the comments. Or: "Why do you stoop to such a low level?" And: "I've rarely heard such garbage, David can't sing."
Whether "Atemlos durch die Nacht" will be well received in its new guise will not only be revealed in front of a live audience on "Wetten, dass...?" on Saturday. It will also be interesting to see whether the duet will actually reach number one in the German singles charts, as some suspect. The original version never managed that.
