Shock moment for wife Annika

Heinz Hoenig had to be revived

The health condition of Heinz Hoenig remains serious following his major operation. His wife, Annika Kärsten-Hoenig, has now spoken about a moment of shock when doctors had to fight for his life.

In an interview with the magazine "Bunte", Annika Kärsten-Hoenig revealed that her husband had to be revived a week and a half ago. During her visit to the Berlin hospital where Heinz Hoenig has been lying since months after his major esophagus operation, she suddenly noticed "a defibrillator pad on his chest", she recalls: "The doctors then told me that they had to revive my husband during the night." This was a shocking moment for the actress and mother of two.

However, there is also good news: Heinz Hoenig is no longer being orally intubated and can now breathe independently through his tracheostoma. He is still getting used to this. With a walker, the actor can already walk a few meters, Kärsten-Hoenig said. The fact that Heinz Hoenig can now breathe independently is a significant step. This is necessary for the life-saving heart operation on the aorta, which the actor has been waiting for months, as Kärsten-Hoenig recently revealed to the "Bild" newspaper.

"Ups and downs" after Hoenig's procedure

"The difficult thing in the last 13 weeks has been this roller coaster ride," Hoenig's wife explained in the RTL show "Stern TV on Sunday" a few days ago. Whenever she feels hopeful, something comes up that "throws you back. You have to mentally digest that and deal with it."

Heinz Hoenig was hospitalized in April due to a bacterial infection, underwent heart and esophagus operations, and was then put into an induced coma. Since then, he has been recovering slowly, and a life-saving operation on the aorta has had to be postponed.

To be there for her husband, Kärsten-Hoenig has temporarily moved with their two sons, Juliano (3) and Jianni (1), into a small apartment in Berlin. The family usually lives in Blankenburg, Saxony-Anhalt. The Hoenigs have been married since 2019.

In her interview, Annika Kärsten-Hoenig mentioned visiting the hospital where Heinz Hoenig has been receiving treatment, and she was surprised to see a defibrillator pad on his chest, as doctors had to revive him during the night. After experiencing this shocking moment, Heinz Hoenig is now making progress in his recovery, as he can breathe independently through his tracheostoma and is beginning to walk with a walker.
