Heino blows a tire on the highway
Bavaria is hit by heavy snowfall at the weekend. Heino, his manager and his singing partner are driving through the icy night on a highway. Suddenly their front tire bursts. But the three of them have a stroke of luck.
A shock moment for folk musician Heino late on Saturday evening in Flintsbach, Bavaria, just before the Austrian border. According to the newspaper "Bild", the right front tire of his Bentley burst on the freeway. His manager Helmut Werner was at the wheel and his singing partner Anita Hegerland was sitting in one of the back seats. Heino himself was sitting in the passenger seat. Fortunately, no one was injured.
"It was a shock and we were suddenly standing there at night in the freezing cold in the middle of no man's land. Fortunately, we were right by an exit and we saw a brightly lit hall nearby, which we managed to get to," Heino explained to the paper.
Luckily for Heino and Co. the hall was the rescue service headquarters. "We got a coffee there and were able to warm up. The ADAC then towed us away and brought us home safely," the singer continues.
"Hannelore was our guardian angel"
Heino had previously played a concert in Hausham, only his second appearance since the death of his beloved wife Hannelore Kramm. She was her guardian angel that night too, said the 84-year-old: "I firmly believe that she is watching over me in heaven. Because the fact that nothing worse happened here in these weather conditions can't have been a coincidence for me. The same goes for the fact that the rescue center was so close." He doesn't know what else he would have done in this icy cold.
Heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures caused chaos on the roads in large parts of southern Germany at the weekend. By Saturday afternoon, for example, almost 50 centimetres of fresh snow had fallen in the Bavarian capital of Munich. Large parts of the rail network, as well as buses and streetcars, were suspended. Munich Airport also reported that no air traffic was possible until Sunday. Meanwhile, the police warned the public to avoid driving if possible and to stay at home. The situation eased again on Sunday.
