Charlie Sheen's comeback - He wants to return to the limelight
Fallen superstar Charlie Sheen (58) is pushing his way back into the limelight. The actor made this clear in an interview with "People" magazine. He is "absolutely ready" for new roles: "For the longest time, I had the best reputation at work. I was the first to come and the last to go." He is really looking forward to being that guy again. Sheen has already landed his first small part. He will appear in two episodes of the upcoming Chuck Lorre comedy series "How to Be a Bookie", as was announced at the beginning of September. The series will have a total of eight episodes. The first two episodes have already been released on the streaming portal Max. The following six episodes will be available until December 21.
Although he almost completely withdrew from the public eye many years ago and fought against his alcohol and drug addiction, he knows that it is not in his hands whether his comeback will work out in the end: "All I can control is my reaction to things, which is a daily struggle in itself." That's why he doesn't develop any "wild fantasies" about where the future will take him: "I just live in this moment, in this experience, and if a new opportunity arises from it, that's great." And if not? "Then maybe I'll go out and create the next opportunity," says Sheen.
Reconciliation with star producer Chuck Lorre
Sheen owes his involvement in the HBO Max comedy series "How to Be a Bookie" to his former "Two and a Half Men" producer Chuck Lorre (71), who kicked him out in 2011 due to his erratic behavior and sealed his fall from grace. After his sacking, Sheen called his ex-boss a "turd" and a "clown" in interviews, among other things. But the two have since been able to reconcile - not least because Sheen is changing.
"For a while, there wasn't much to complain about in my life," says Sheen. But his "demons and obsessions" changed everything. Even today, he would still be ashamed of his former behavior and he never expected Lorre to call him about a new role at some point. But he took the opportunity that presented itself to end the argument.
"Chuck reached out to me and said, 'Hey, it's time to bury the hatchet. It's time for us to hug and remember the great things we've done together'." They had made a lot of people happy together and really left behind a solid body of work. When they met again on the studio lot for the first time in years, they were both just "beaming". It was almost "surreal" for him to return, Sheen said.
