When his co-moderator brought up his coming-out, Schumacher spoke of his surprise over the many positive reactions and also explained that he wanted to keep work and personal life separate: "I didn't expect the reaction and all the positive messages. But as you say: It's private and it doesn't belong here [at] the Formula 1 race track, nor to my job at Sky", quoted RTL.

On July 14, Ralf Schumacher made his love for a man public on Instagram with a post. To a photo of himself and partner Étienne, he wrote: "The most beautiful thing in life is having the right partner by your side, with whom you can share everything."
