Harvey Weinstein hospitalized
Harvey Weinstein is currently hospitalized at Bellevue Hospital in New York City due to Corona and a double lung infection. Weakened, Weinstein appeared at a court hearing a month ago.
The incarcerated 72-year-old film producer Harvey Weinstein has been transferred to the infirmary of Bellevue Hospital in New York City, according to "NBC News," citing Weinstein's spokesperson Craig Rothfeld.
Weinstein has been diagnosed with Coronavirus and a double lung infection. A bilateral pneumonia often occurs alongside an infectious disease such as Covid-19. In addition, he is being treated for "an unspecified number of health issues," Rothfeld added. Among these are various chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, spinal stenosis, and fluid in the heart and lungs.
Harvey Weinstein has been hospitalized at Bellevue Hospital not for the first time this year. In April 2024, he was admitted for tests. At the time, his attorney Arthur Aidala told "TMZ" that Weinstein's health condition was "a disaster."
Weinstein appeared visibly weakened at a court hearing in New York in July of this year. He was wheelchair-bound and had noticeably lost weight. The trial against the former star producer was then rescheduled to roll again in November 2024.
Convicted of Sex Crimes
Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison by a New York court in 2020 for rape and criminal sexual act. However, in April 2023, the New York State Supreme Court overturned the ruling. The reason: The judge had allowed testimony from women who were not victims of the indictment but spoke negatively about Weinstein. These testimonies could have influenced the jury.
Despite the reversal of the ruling by the highest court, Weinstein remains in custody. This is because he was sentenced to 16 years in prison in a separate case in Los Angeles for sexual offenses in early 2023. His attorneys are also challenging this sentence.
Following his court hearing, concerns about Harvey Weinstein's health arose, as he appeared visibly weakened. These concerns were further validated when Sexualized Violence became a significant topic during the trial, with accounts of sexual abuse affecting many. Unfortunately, the entertainment industry has been tainted with such issues, and Weinstein's case is a prime example. The global Coronaviruses pandemic, which also impacted Weinstein, has brought processes such as court proceedings to a new level of complexity. Despite the overturning of his initial sentence, Harvey Weinstein remains in prison, serving time for different Sexual Crimes convictions in both New York and Los Angeles.
