Harry and William mourn their uncle
When Lady Jane Spencer married in Westminster in 1978, Princess Diana was a bridesmaid. Years later, Lord Robert Fellowes earned the respect of the Queen - as her most loyal advisor. He has now passed away at the age of 81.
Lord Robert Fellowes has died. The uncle of Prince William and Prince Harry has passed away at the age of 82. He served as the private secretary to Queen Elizabeth II for nine years and was the husband of Lady Jane Spencer, the sister of Princess Diana.
Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, confirmed Fellowes' death in a post on X and wrote alongside a picture of an article from "The Times": "My wonderful brother-in-law Robert is no longer with us. He was a true gentleman in the best sense of the word, a man of humor, wisdom, and absolute integrity. I am very proud to have been his brother-in-law."
According to "The Telegraph," Fellowes died on July 29 from unknown causes. He was born in 1941, the son of the estate manager of Sandringham. One of his first visitors was the young Princess Elizabeth, who later said, "Robert is the only one of my private secretaries that I held in my arms."
Knight Commander
He attended Eton College and was a member of the British Army from 1960 to 1963. After stints in the private sector, he became assistant to the private secretary of the late Queen in 1977.
In 1986, he was appointed deputy private secretary and in 1990, he became the private secretary. He held this position until 1999, serving the Royal Family during some of its most turbulent years. He was one of the Queen's most loyal and discreet advisors.
In 1989, he was appointed Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order and in 1998, he was elevated to Knight Grand Cross. He married Lady Jane Spencer in April 1978 in Westminster, with Princess Diana in attendance as a bridesmaid. The couple had three children.
The British royal family mourns the loss of Lord Robert Fellowes, a dedicated servant who served as the Queen's private secretary for nearly a decade. He was a close relative to Princes William and Harry, being the husband of Lady Jane Spencer, Princess Diana's sister.
