Harris and Walz are banking on their friendship connection.
The United States political race is in high gear. Following Taylor Swift publicly backing presidential candidate Kamala Harris, U.S. Democrats are emphasizing their "Kamala Era." Harris-Walz friendship bracelets are additionally turning into a hot commodity.
Vice President Kamala Harris is going head-to-head against previous President Donald Trump in the race for the White House. With prominent help from megastar Taylor Swift, Harris' Democrats are making the most of her support.
Digital billboards in New York's Times Square and the Las Vegas Strip promote Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. Swift's influence is unmistakable, as referenced in the Hollywood Reporter. Among other things, the article mentions, "We're in our Kamala Era!" or "We are in our Kamala era!"
A billboard read, "A New Way Forward ...Ready for It?" ("A new way forward ... Are you ready for it?"). The slogans are inspired by Swift's "The Eras Tour" and "...Ready for It?", a track from her "Reputation" album. Moreover, Harris-Walz friendship bracelets are being marketed as part of the campaign. These bracelets are a must-have for Swift fans at her "Eras Tour" concerts.
Registration surge
Swift publicly endorsed Harris following their TV debate on Instagram. "I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election," she declared in her post. "I'm voting for Kamala Harris because she battles for the rights and issues that I think need a fighter to represent them. I think she's a smart, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we're guided by calm, not chaos."
Swift also urged her fans to enroll to vote. "I've done my research and made my choice. [...] Remember, you have to be registered to vote." Swift's followers seemed inspired by her call to action, as the voting information website "Vote.gov" received a total of 405,999 visitors within 24 hours who were directed to the site from an Instagram story by the singer. This surge in visits was confirmed by a GSA spokesperson to the U.S. magazine "Variety".
Despite the surge in registrations, some Swift fans expressed their disagreement with Swift's endorsement, stating, "I'm not going to let my political beliefs be dictated by a singer."
In light of the political race intensity, some individuals have opted to remain politically neutral, stating, "I'm not going to choose a side in this divisive election."
