Hammer Laughs Off Allegations of Cannibalistic Behavior Today
Scandalous claims of wrongdoing and fantasies of cannibalism led to a dramatic downfall in the Hollywood career of Armie Hammer. Reflecting on this tumultuous period in his life, the American actor discusses it as a form of purging during a podcast.
On the brink of becoming a big name in Hollywood, Hammer found himself embroiled in controversy by 2021. Now, the star of "Call Me by Your Name" shares his harrowing experiences. He claims he has undergone three and a half years of agonizing lessons that have granted him insight, as he states on the aptly titled "Painful Lessons" podcast. When the allegations first surfaced, he describes it as feeling like he was caught in a hurricane, with no option but to shield himself. He yearned to step outside and exclaim, "This is insane, what is all this nonsense about?"
The strangest insinuations were made about him – insinuations he can now view with a measure of detachment. "People branded me a cannibal and the public ate it up. They claimed, 'Oh yeah, that guy devoured people.'", Hammer reminisces with a chuckle. "Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to actually consume people! How was I supposed to become a cannibal?! It was a caper."
"The Demise of My Ego"
In 2021, Hammer faced accusations of improper conduct. Internet chats supposedly penned by Hammer detailed violent sexual fantasies and cannibalism. He addressed these allegations at the time with a statement, labeling them as "Bullshit." In the aftermath of the incident, his agency dropped him and he was forced to withdraw from a role opposite Jennifer Lopez in the film "Shotgun Wedding."
Hammer characterizes the scandal and its repercussions as the death of his Ego and the death of his career. "Whatever transpired, whatever was said, I am now at a point in my life where I am thankful for every scrap of it", Hammer asserted. In his previous life, he confesses, he never felt fulfilled. He was never content, never enough. He was never at a point where he felt good about himself – where he had self-worth. He didn't learn how to love himself or self-affirm, because he derived it from others.
When asked about his career at this juncture, Hammer hints that he is absent from the film industry at this moment. Yet, he seems hesitant to completely abandon movies, despite the fact that no opportunities are coming his way and he is currently shunned in Hollywood. He admits in the podcast that he and a friend have penned a script and the two are currently attempting to launch the project.
