Hamas announces capture of Israeli troops.
There are claims that Hamas managed to trick a number of Israeli soldiers into walking into an ambush, resulting in their capture in the Gaza Strip. But Israel's army is denying this, and there are pending questions.
Hamas alleges that they ambushed an Israeli military group in a hidden tunnel, presumably located in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, and captured or injured them, as mentioned by Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the militant group's armed wing.
Additionally, they publically released a video depicting a wounded individual being dragged through the tunnel, images of military gear and weapons. However, it's crucial to note that the authenticity of these materials cannot be verified independently. Official word on the number of Israeli soldiers held captive was not given.
The Israeli army, on the other hand, denied these claims. Upholding that "The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) confirms that no soldier was captured," the military stated in a release. The statement does raise the possibility of casualties, though, with no specific details provided.
Israel continued aggression against the city of Rafah in southern Gaza over the weekend with airstrikes and expansive artillery action. Witnesses and journalists from AFP sourced that there occurred further armed conflicts between Israeli forces and militant Palestinians in other regions like Deir al-Balah, Gaza City, and Jabalia in northern Gaza.
Ceasefire discussions and hostage releases discussions have come to a grinding halt during this month. It's rumored that Israel strategizes to resume the conversations shortly.
Meanwhile, the pro-Palestinian supporters flocked together in the city of Tel Aviv and voiced demands to rescue the captured Palestinians. They also paid their respects to the hostages through a minute of silence. However, the police intervened with the hostile crowds by utilizing horses and water cannons, resulting in the objectors being dispersed. A total of 121 individuals are still being held captive in Gaza. The Israeli army speculates that about 37 of those kidnapped have already met their ends.
