Guttenberg appears with a new woman by his side
It's been a year since the divorce of Karl-Theodor and Stephanie von Guttenberg became known. Now, the former defense minister attended a riding tournament - but not alone. Katherina Reiche sat next to him on the tribune. According to media reports, the two have been a couple for months.
Former politician Karl-Theodor von Guttenberg visited the CHIO riding tournament in Aachen on July 7. In itself, this is not news. But interesting is his companion. It was the first time since the official divorce in September 2021 that the former defense minister appeared in public with a woman. The chosen one at his side: Katherina Reiche, former parliamentary state secretary in the Environment Ministry and the Transport Ministry. According to "Bild" newspaper reports, the two have been a couple for several months.
The two followed the tournament with apparent enjoyment and were often deep in conversation. Guttenberg wore a light dark jacket, Reiche came in a striking orange-colored jacket, both wore sunglasses.
This is their first public appearance together. However, "Bild" reports that they celebrated New Year's Eve in Kitzbühel together - as a couple. Friends reportedly told the newspaper that the new relationship with Guttenberg is going well. He seems happier and more cheerful since she's been by his side. No confirmation of the relationship has been given by Guttenberg or Reiche so far.
Marriage after 23 years
Karl-Theodor and Stephanie von Guttenberg married in 2000. He, a scion of a Franconian noble family, was a rising star in politics. Some even believed he would become Chancellor. She, on the other hand, is a descendant of German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. The two were considered one of the most brilliant couples in German politics, even hailed as German Kennedys - before the CSU politician stumbled over the plagiarism affair in his doctoral thesis and suffered a career setback. Last year, they announced their separation after 23 years of marriage.
Katherina Reiche was also long considered a promising figure in the Union. She entered the Bundestag as an MP at the age of 25 in 1998. In 2003, she married her party colleague Sven Petke. They have three children and have been living apart for some time. In 2015, Reiche ended her political career and switched to business. She is currently CEO of 10,000 employees at Westenergie, the largest subsidiary of energy company E.ON. Guttenberg also switched to business after the plagiarism scandal in 2011 and works as a consultant, among other things, for Lufthansa.
The entertainment at the CHIO riding tournament in Aachen provided an enjoyable backdrop for Karl-Theodor Prince of Guttenberg and his companion Katherina Reiche. Their public outing sparked interest, given Guttenberg's separation from CDU politician Stephanie von Guttenberg.
Guttenberg and Reiche's public appearance at the riding tournament marked a significant shift in his personal life, following media reports of their romantic involvement for several months.
