Gundula Gause has dropouts in "heute journal"

ZDF presenter Gundula Gause scares the viewers of "heute journal". During the program, she has a blackout before disappearing from the screen. Her colleague takes over and later gives the all-clear.

Viewers of the ZDF program "heute-journal" were worried about presenter Gundula Gause that evening. Barely ten minutes after the 58-year-old had presented the news program as usual from 9:45 p.m., she suddenly spoke indistinctly and apparently had problems reading her text from the teleprompter. Nevertheless, she still managed to finish a report on the current situation in Israel and the Gaza Strip. In the end, she was no longer in the picture.

Afterwards, however, she did not return to the camera, her colleague Dunja Hayali took over the moderation and brought the "heute-journal" to a close. At the end of the show, Hayali gave a brief update on Gause's state of health: "The fact that I had to finish the show alone is simply because Gundula just got a bit dizzy. It can happen - but the all-clear: she's feeling better again." Viewers commented on the incident on social media and expressed their relief at Hayali's reassurance.

Gundula Gause has been with ZDF since 1989 and has been a co-presenter on "heute-journal" since 1993, taking over as the main presenter in January 2022. Gause lives in Mainz and has been married to dentist and FDP politician Peter Schmitz since 1997, with whom she has two children. On the program "Kölner Treff" in September 2017, Gause said that she officially goes by the double name Gause-Schmitz.
