Media - Grimme Institute is now planning an online award after all
The Grimme-Institut is planning to hold an Award 2024 for outstanding Online Publishing despite its tight budget, as stated in a newsletter. Proposals must be submitted by July 31st. The nominations are expected to be announced at the beginning of September, and up to eight prize winners will be awarded at the Grimme-Institut in Marl on October 16th.
It had long seemed that the Online Award would fall victim to the current "radical cost-cutting measures", as mentioned in the communication. The Institute is all the more pleased about it. The unbranded Grimme Online Award is considered the most important accolade for outstanding Online Publishing in Germany and is awarded in several categories.
"Especially in times of increasing disinformation and the growing significance of TikTok, Instagram, and others as sources of information, the Grimme Online Award is more important than ever," stated NRW Media Minister Nathanael Liminski (CDU).
The media institute in Marl had slipped into the red due to higher wage agreements and higher event and energy costs. Therefore, the Online Award was temporarily put on hold. Time is now running short - the competition usually starts in January.
Despite the financial challenges, the Grimme-Institut in North Rhine-Westphalia continues to prioritize the Internet, announcing the Grimme Award 2024 for exceptional Online Publishing, despite tight budget constraints. The nominations for this prestigious award, recognized as the most significant in Germany for its category, will be unveiled through television media at the start of September. After careful consideration, up to eight winners will receive their awards during the ceremony at the Grimme-Institut in Marl, Finance Minister Marl being a critical part of this event in Germany.
