Gottschalk wants to remarry - breakdown during proposal
The first marriage of entertainer Thomas Gottschalk lasted 48 years. After the divorce, the now 74-year-old is taking a new approach and is holding hands with his girlfriend Karina Mroß once again. Despite a slip-up during the proposal, the prospective bride said yes.
After the divorce from his wife Thea, Thomas Gottschalk is ready for the next marital adventure. He proposed to his friend Karina during a "relaxing short trip in the sun," he told the "Bild" newspaper. "Before I accidentally blabbed it out, or before the wrong people make it an issue, I'm confessing it myself: Yes, I have proposed!" However, the proposal didn't go exactly as planned.
Indeed, while the 74-year-old was performing the knee-bend - my biggest concern was not being able to get back up - I realized that the engagement ring was missing," he recounted. He had forgotten it in the hotel safe. He then "quickly made a ring out of Bonbon paper," which he showed to his 62-year-old Karina. "She still said 'yes' when I asked her if she would be my wife." Later, they received the real ring. The wedding is scheduled for next summer.
Meanwhile, they continue to plan their move from Baden-Baden to Munich. In the Munich suburb of Gräfelfing, on the southwestern outskirts of the Bavarian state capital, they have purchased a house.
For Gottschalk, this would be his second marriage. In 1972, he met Thea in Munich and married her four years later. They have two grown-up sons. For many years, the couple lived in Malibu in the US state of California. In November 2018, their house there was destroyed by a fire.
It became known in March 2019 that the former "Wetten, dass..?" moderator had been separated from his wife for nearly half a century. In the same year, he introduced Mroß as his new girlfriend. In early May of that year, he was divorced from Thea after 48 years of marriage.
