Gossip and Beth Ditto are "Crazy Again"
When Gossip released their album "Music For Men" in 2009, nobody could get past the band around singer Beth Ditto. Their song "Heavy Cross" became a long-running hit. But then the group disbanded and the front woman went solo. Now Gossip are celebrating their comeback.
Singer Beth Ditto is known for her bizarre performances. She gave a taste of this in 2010, for example, when she plopped her full body weight onto the lap of folk musician Hansi Hinterseer on "Wetten, dass...?" under the watchful eye of baffled presenter Thomas Gottschalk. Above all, however, the US-American impresses with her vocal power, with which she would certainly sing a Hansi Hinterseer against the wall.
She first proved this as the front woman of the band Gossip, founded in 1999. The album "Standing In The Way Of Control", released in 2006, made music fans sit up and take notice. But when the longplayer "Music For Men" was released three years later at the latest, no one could really ignore the band. At least in Europe. In their home country of the USA, however, Gossip were denied major recognition.
Not least in Germany, however, the single "Heavy Cross" mutated into a long-running hit that is still a must at any good indie party. In 2010, it was rewarded with a Bambi in the "Pop International" category.
New album in March
Having just reached the peak of their career, the group, which includes guitarist Nathan Howdeshell and drummer Hannah Blilie alongside Ditto, disbanded in 2016. From then on, the front woman wanted to focus more on fashion issues and go solo. Now, however, Gossip are back with their former line-up - and for the first time in eleven years, they also have new music in their luggage.
The group's album "Real Power" will be released on March 22 next year. Like "Music For Men", it was once again produced by music legend Rick Rubin. The single "Crazy Again" is the first taste of what's to come. The accompanying video, which was filmed in Kansas City, has just been released.
"The song is about being in love and feeling safe," explains Ditto and cheers about the comeback with her bandmates: "We survived. We came out of nowhere and we got ourselves out of it. And now, 20 years later, to still be making music together is just incredible."
Gossip's new album, titled "Real Power," includes a single called "Crazy Again," marking their return with original music after a six-year hiatus. In the realm of music, Gossip is known for their versatility, dabbling in both rock and pop genres, with rock music playing a significant role in their distinctive sound.
