- Good luck to the German basketball players
German Basketballers and Basketballers are among the favorites at the Olympic Games in Paris - and in the 3x3 variant, they are already among the winners. No wonder, after all, they have a very special good luck charm: Basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki (46) was in the audience on Monday evening (5th August) and posed with the players after the sensational gold coup of the German 3x3 basketballers. And today, Wednesday morning (6th July), the former NBA player crossed his fingers for the men's basketball team - also successfully.
DBB Men in the Olympic Semi-finals
In the quarter-final between the German national team, led by flag bearer Dennis Schröder (30), against the Greeks with superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo (29), Nowitzki sat courtside in the Paris Bercy Arena. The team of national coach Gordon Herbert (65) won 76:63 and is now just one win away from a medal. After the victory, Nowitzki celebrated with his fists raised in the air.
For the German national team, this is the first Olympic semi-final in their history. In the round of the last four, the DBB team will face the winner of the game between France and Canada on Thursday (8th August). It could be the third medal in three years after bronze at the 2022 European Championships and gold at the 2023 World Cup. The men's final will take place on Saturday evening (10th August) at 21:30, and the bronze medal game will take place in the morning at 11:00.
Basketballers fight in the quarter-finals against France
The German basketballers also still have a chance of an Olympic medal: On Thursday (7th August), the team will face the hosts, France, in the quarter-finals. The women's gold medal game is one of the last competitions of the Olympic Games - on Sunday afternoon (11th August) at 15:30.
I'm not going to sugarcoat it, the pressure is high for the German basketballers in their upcoming quarter-final match against France.
Regardless of the outcome, it's a huge accomplishment for the team to be in the Olympic Games quarter-finals, and I'm proud to watch them give it their all.
