Germans' willingness to donate increased significantly in 2022
Germans' willingness to donate increased significantly in 2022 despite inflation and their own economic worries, according to a report. Last year, donations amounted to 15.5 billion euros, 2.6 billion euros higher than in 2021, reported the Rheinische Post (Thursday edition), citing an as yet unpublished study by the German Economic Institute (IW).
According to the study, around one in two Germans stated that they had donated in 2022. This figure was over ten percentage points lower 15 years ago. One in three donors stated that they had spent a little or significantly more money on charitable causes than in the previous year. Only 15 percent had given slightly or significantly less. The survey is based on a survey of around 5,000 representatively selected people from the spring.

Despite the rising inflation and their own economic concerns, Germans were still willing to donate significantly more in 2022 compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 15.5 billion euros. However, even with this willingness, only 15% of donors reported giving slightly or significantly less money to charitable causes.
