- Germans reportedly assaulted taxi drivers and impersonated law enforcement officers.
Group of four German travelers were apprehended on Mallorca, based on police declarations, for supposedly attacking a cabbie. The victim disclosed to "Mallorca Zeitung" that the Germans asserted to be German law enforcement officials and even displayed their identification cards.
Reportedly, they hopped into the cab on a Monday evening on the renowned "Schinkenstraße" party road, intending to reach their motel in the island's core, as likewise reported by "Mallorca Magazin".
Upon arrival, a heated disagreement ensued, with one of the Germans implicating the driver of taking his mobile phone. The vacationers allegedly assailed the driver, according to media reports.
The 71-year-old motorist ended up in the hospital with several bone fractures. "I believed they were going to kill me," he informed "Mallorca Zeitung". "When I asked for the police, they just stated they were the police," the newspaper cited the man.
Upon the arrival of the police at the hotel, reportedly, one of the Germans offered the motorist and the officers money to scrapped the accusations. Consequently, one of the Germans was initially taken into custody, followed by his accomplices. Police probes are still ongoing.
As per the victim's family, the Germans were brought before a judge who did not decree their detention. The men have since departed from the island. No formal verification was initially offered.
The cabbie claimed that the Germans, trying to pass as other German law enforcement officials, presented their identification cards during the incident. Despite their claims, the actual police found no evidence of their authority when they intervened.
