German tourist plunges to his demise at the Ballermann area.
Time after time, travelers on Mallorca meet their tragic end by falling off balconies. Typically, these inebriated holidaymakers find themselves locked out or seeking to leap from their balconies into the pool as a show of bravado. The latest fatality of a German tourist is still under investigation.
It was reported by "Diario de Mallorca" and other media outlets on the Spanish island that a 21-year-old German tourist passed away as a result of falling from a hotel balcony in Playa de Palma. The exact cause of the fall is still being determined by authorities. When contacted, they stated that it was likely an accident. The unfortunate incident is said to have occurred around 3:00 am on Monday night, after the victim and his friends had returned to the hotel from a night of heavy drinking. They found his lifeless body sometime in the early morning hours on Tuesday, around 8:00 am.
The police have initiated an inquiry into the matter, believing it to be an accident. It is likely that the young man, while sitting on the balcony railing to smoke, lost his balance and tumbled to his death.
This marks the second fatal balcony accident involving a German tourist on the island this month. Just two weeks ago, on May 7, a 23-year-old German man lost his life at Ballermann, another popular spot for tourists. Details surrounding the incident are scarce, but authorities believe he was attempting to climb onto his balcony after losing his hotel key in an altercation. Intoxicated at the time, he reportedly tried to climb over the building's exterior in an attempt to regain access to his room.
As the party season gets into full swing, Playa de Palma has seen a surge in tourists from Germany once more. While many flock to Magaluf, another popular destination to the west of Palma, others frequent this area. However, it has become all too common for tourists to sustain fatal injuries in balcony falls on Mallorca. The phenomenon, known as "balconing," often involves vacationers who have had one too many drinks.
