Gelsenkirchen gears up for Taylor Swift

Gelsenkirchen is preparing for the visit of Taylor Swift. The city has already set up a signboard with the name "Swiftkirchen." More are to follow. The local tram company is also joining in and sending Swift's portrait through the Ruhr region.

Gelsenkirchen will be the venue for Taylor Swift's "Eras Tour" in July - and is renaming itself in honor of the singer. In response to the three concerts of the artist expected on 17th, 18th, and 19th July, the Ruhr region city received a new signboard with the title Swiftkirchen. Thousands of Swift's fans, who are expected to gather around the shows, will be welcomed by the signboard in the city center.

The signboard was unveiled by Swift fan Aleshanee Westhoff from Emmerich. The student had started a petition a few weeks ago and suggested the name. Mayor Karin Welge responded with a thank-you letter and wrote: "What a great idea, Gelsenkirchen to be called Swiftkirchen for a while."

Several other signboards "at highly frequented locations in Gelsenkirchen" are expected to follow in the coming days, as city spokesman Markus Schwardtmann announced.

Further Surprises Planned

The city has announced that it has prepared more for the fans: A "Taylor-Swift-Streetcar" of Bogestra is already in operation. In the Gelsenkirchen district of Buer, the US singer is also expected to receive her own stone on the Walk of Fame - next to legends like Schalke legend Rudi Assauer and writer Ilse Kibgis. Around the concerts, Gelsenkirchen then invites to the open-air party "Taylor Town" with karaoke in the city center.

Further surprises are planned. "There will be many small and big surprises, so that the Swifties in Gelsenkirchen have a lot to discover," Schwardtmann shared.

Swift's concerts in Gelsenkirchen mark the start of the German leg of the "Eras Tour." The sold-out shows will take place in the Veltins-Arena on Schalke, with up to 70,000 so-called Swifties expected at each performance. Following are shows in Hamburg and Munich.

The upcoming Pop music concerts by Taylor Swift in Gelsenkirchen are not just about entertainment, but also a celebration of Music. These concerts, part of her "Eras Tour," have led to the temporary renaming of Gelsenkirchen to Swiftkirchen, highlighting the city's strong connection to the famed singer.

Swift's fans eagerly awaiting the shows in Gelsenkirchen can also enjoy a special "Taylor-Swift-Streetcar" provided by Bogestra, adding another layer of excitement to their entertainment experience.
