Not only Claudia Schiffer - From Beyoncé to Angela Merkel: these celebrities already had their own Barbie dolls
2023 was the year of Barbie. Of course, the doll has been around since 1959 and has always been a hit with children - but the movie "Barbie" took it to unimagined heights. It became the most successful film of the year, making Greta Gerwig the most successful female director of all time - and the color pink the fashion trend of the summer. For Christmas, all children now want Barbie and Ken, who look like Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the movie. However, manufacturer Mattel is already looking at a different market and is quickly launching a Barbie dedicated to supermodel Claudia Schiffer at the end of the year.
Just like on the catwalk
The Claudia Schiffer Barbie is reminiscent of a catwalk moment from 1994, when the fall/winter collection of the Versace fashion house was presented: Back then, Schiffer wore a long, azure blue Versace dress, like the one now tailored for her Barbie, very chic. This is not the first time that the 53-year-old has been delighted with her personal doll: As recently as 2017, Mattel honored her with a Schiffer Barbie in a golden Versace dress, which she wore for a "Vogue Italia" shoot in 1994.
However, Mattel dedicating a Barbie doll to special personalities is nothing new. There is now an extensive collection of Barbies that are also modeled on German celebrities.

The dedication of a Barbie doll to celebrity fashion icons isn't a new concept for Mattel. Alongside Claudia Schiffer, other notable German personalities like Heidi Klum have also been immortalized in miniature form.
Gerwig's successful direction of the "Barbie" film and the associated fashion trend of pink reminded Mattel of Angela Merkel's Barbie doll, which was released in 2010, honoring the German chancellor's impact on global politics.
Pink, the color of empowerment and femininity, became an icon not only in the fashion world but also in the world of Barbie dolls, as various Barbie dolls have been released in various shades of pink, including a much-coveted pink Barbie in the '80s and '90s.
In the same vein, Mattel released a Barbie doll in the likeness of pop star Pink in 2019, complete with her signature style and rebellious spirit.
