France is supporting the International Criminal Court (ICC), and its independence, after it issued arrest warrants for Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the leader of the terrorist organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Jihia al-Sinwar. A statement from the French Foreign Ministry said, "France supports the International Criminal Court and its efforts to combat impunity in all situations."

They made it known that they strongly condemned the anti-Semitic attacks carried out by Hamas since their start. Regarding Israel, they've been urging strict adherence to international humanitarian law for several months, expressing their concern over the casualties among the civilian population in the Gaza Strip and the lack of access for aid shipments.

The French Foreign Ministry highlighted their commitment to finding a long-term political solution in the region, which is the best way to re-establish peace and end the suffering of both Israelis and Palestinians.

The minister added, "As for Israel, it will be for the Pre-Trial Chamber of the Court to decide whether to issue these arrest warrants once they've reviewed the evidence provided by the Prosecutor to support his allegations. This should take into account the principle of complementarity, which lets the court intervene when states are either unwilling or unable to prosecute specific heinous crimes on their own."

On Monday, the ICC's chief prosecutor in The Hague, Karim Khan, requested an arrest warrant for alleged crimes against humanity against both Netanyahu and Israel's Defense Minister Joav Galant. In addition, warrants were sought for the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, his deputy, and the head of Hamas abroad.

The principle of complementarity dictates that the court steps in only when nations are unwilling or incapable of prosecuting a specific serious crime on their own.
