Four Tops Singer to Wear Straitjacket Instead of Receiving Celebrity Bonus

Alexander Morris from the group The Four Tops wound up in hospital agony because of chest pains, but what happened there left him more distraught. Instead of receiving proper medical attention, he found himself handcuffed in a straitjacket. And this was all supposedly down to his fame.

The singer, now a member of the Four Tops since 2018, has released hits like "Reach Out I'll Be There" with the band. His celebrity status might've been meant to help him, but it seemed to only draw more attention from doctors in Detroit's Ascension Macomb Oakland Hospital. According to bbc.com, Morris has filed a lawsuit against the hospital for the mistreatment he endured. He claims that his emergency treatment was halted so the doctors could perform a psychological evaluation. In his claim, Morris mentions that the doctors even went so far as to accuse him of racial prejudice and mental illness because he informed them that he was a part of the Four Tops.

Morris suffered from breathing issues and chest pain back in April 2023 and went to the hospital for relief. He admitted to the staff that he was a member of the Four Tops to relieve security concerns over stalkers and fans. But the staff allegedly misunderstood his identity as a celebrity and truly believed he was mentally ill. Consequently, they took away his oxygen mask and strapped him down with a straitjacket, Morris claims. In an attempt to clear things up, his wife tried to warn the staff that he wasn't insane but just another well-known artist, but they simply ignored her.

But the incident shifted when Morris provided the hospital staff with recordings of his performance with the Four Tops at the Grammy Awards. They recognized their error and even offered the singer a $25 gift card as an apology. However, Morris refused the card and was diagnosed with a severe heart condition and lung infection, the report reveals.

The hospital team has shared that their "number one priority is the health and safety of patients" and that they "absolutely do not condone any version of racial discrimination." Details regarding the ongoing probes were not disclosed.
