Streaming and TV - Formula 1 back on free TV: RTL and Sky to cooperate from 2024

Formula 1 and Premier League, but also series, are included in the cooperation announced by RTL and Sky on Tuesday. From 2024, the two media companies will swap content previously only shown on their platforms as part of their partnership. Formula 1 fans can once again look forward to racing on free TV, with seven races per season to be shown on RTL in future. There will also be three Bundesliga 2 conference broadcasts per season in future. RTL+, the broadcaster's paid streaming service, will show one Premier League match per week. In return, Sky will receive the rights to two Europa League or Europa Conference League matches per match week. It has not yet been decided which races and matches will be shown.

"The new content partnership with Sky is the next big step towards our promise of 'All Inclusive Entertainment', as it perfectly complements our fiction and sports offering around soccer, American football and motorsports," explained Stephan Schmitter, the future CEO of RTL Deutschland. Sky is also looking forward to the future cooperation. "The innovative partnership with RTL now enables us to show even more viewers some of the exciting sports experiences that the brilliant team at Sky Sport has in store for them," said Barny Mills, CEO of Sky Deutschland.

RTL and Sky: Partnership also in the "Fiction" sector

However, the partnership, initially agreed for two years, does not only cover sporting events. RTL will also have access to fiction formats such as "Der Pass" and "Das Boot", which will also be available on RTL+. The cooperation also includes selected highlight rights, Sky fiction blockbusters and close collaboration between the two companies' productions and editorial teams. According to the press release, live sport and content will be just the beginning of a more extensive partnership between the two broadcasters. The aim is to share even more content in the future
