Former transport minister Scheuer becomes a father again

Andreas Scheuer is still facing a million-euro recourse claim from his time as Federal Minister of Transport due to the car toll debacle. In his private life, however, the CSU man clearly has more luck: he and his wife Julia have become parents.

Former Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer and his wife Julia have become parents. As reported by the Bild newspaper, the couple had a daughter named Cecilia on the night of November 24. "Mother and child are doing well, we are overjoyed," Scheuer confirmed to the newspaper. "Yes, we are expecting a baby in the fall. We are very happy," the CSU politician told Bild back in June. It is the 49-year-old's second child: Andreas Scheuer has another daughter from his second marriage.

The former CSU Secretary General said yes to his current wife Julia Reuss just over two years ago. "Yes, we got married," he confirmed to "Bunte" in August 2021. He continued: "We are very happy and are looking forward to our future together." The ceremony should have taken place in 2020, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the report. This is Scheuer's third marriage.

"We had great conversations"

The couple have known each other since 2007, as Reuss also told the magazine in summer 2022. In the first few years, they were "barely aware of each other". He had always known "that Julia is a great woman, but we were both in other relationships", he explained. "In 2019, we were both single and had failed marriages behind us. We went out for dinner, had great conversations and then it really sparked."

Scheuer, who was born in Passau, Bavaria, in 1974, has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002. He was Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure from the beginning of 2018 to the end of 2021. However, the CSU politician is still facing a hefty recourse claim from this period. Since July, the current Federal Minister of Transport, Volker Wissing, has had claims for damages against his predecessor for the failed car toll examined. "We can't simply put the 243 million euro file to one side," said the FDP politician, referring to payments due from the federal government to the once planned toll operators. This is not a political issue, but a legal one.

Andreas Scheuer's new role as a father has taken a backseat in his legal battles, as he continues to face a million-euro recourse claim stemming from his time as Federal Transport Minister due to the car toll debacle. Despite the controversy, the celebrity couple's love story has gained traction in entertainment news, with reports of their bond growing stronger over dinner conversations and shared experiences, ultimately leading to their marriage in 2021.
