- Foreign Minister cheers athletes in Paris
Visit from German Politics at the Olympic Games in Paris: German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (43) paid a visit to Team Germany yesterday (August 1st). Baerbock, a former trampoline gymnast herself, visited the German House at Stade Jean Bouin. On Friday, she watched live as the German women's hockey team secured a spot in the quarterfinals against China.
Baerbock supports German Olympic bid
Baerbock sees the Olympic Games as an opportunity to bring the world together, as she explained in an interview with "Eurosport". She supports the German Olympic bid "wholeheartedly." She believes that the Germans have proven themselves to be "great hosts" during the UEFA European Football Championship this summer. Baerbock wishes the German athletes of this year's Games good luck: "I'm crossing my fingers for you and I'm proud of our Team D," she said.
Baerbock also uses her trip to Paris for political talks, including with her French counterpart. Since Friday (August 2nd), Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (54) has also been in Paris. There, she signed the basic agreement with the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) for a German Olympic bid.
Baerbock expressed her enthusiasm for the German Olympic bid during her interview with "Eurosport," stating that she believes the country has demonstrated its capability as a great host, as seen during the UEFA European Football Championship. The German women's hockey team will face China in the quarterfinals, a match Baerbock will likely be watching with great interest, given that they secured their spot against China on Friday.
