Folks are expressing discontentment over Glenn Close's involvement in "The Deliverance."

The movie's director has addressed criticism directed towards Glenn Close's portrayal of the character Alberta.

Based on a real-life incident from 2011 involving a Black family who claimed to be haunted in their home, the film features Andra Day, Mo’nique, and Close in leading roles, with Close as the mother of Day's character.

There has been some controversy surrounding Close's casting as a white mother in a primarily Black cast, but the real controversy arose from a scene where Close's character, inhabited by a demon, performs an exorcism.

During this scene, she utters the line, "I can detect the scent of your ungroomed vulva."

This scene sparked a wave of conversation on social media, such as, "Lee Daniel's (sic), you will be accountable for having Glenn Close utter these words."

Daniels addressed this backlash by saying, "I had to do it."

He didn't leave his audience guessing, though.

Daniels shared a scene from the movie before its release through X.

"Y'all aren't prepared for Glenn in this," he wrote.

He might have been correct.

Furthermore, Daniels stated, "Every Black person knows an Alberta."

"She's a staple in our community, yet we've never witnessed her on screen before," he continued, "thank you Glenn for bringing her to life in such a powerful manner."

Despite the controversy, the film offers numerous entertaining moments due to Close's compelling performance.Upon watching the movie, viewers will find themselves engrossed in the entertaining portrayal of Close's character, adding unexpected humor to the horror genre.
