Final consultation apparently delayed further
The final consultation on the federal budget for 2024 has apparently been further delayed. As the "Rheinische Post" reported on Thursday, citing coalition circles, the final vote will not take place in the first week of next year's session from January 15 to 19. The background to this is that, due to legal uncertainties, a new expert hearing will be scheduled first.
The next regular session week after that would be from January 29 to February 2. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) had announced on Wednesday that parliament could "hold a final debate on the 2024 budget in its first sitting week of the new year". However, according to the report, this has now been rejected by the coalition parties.
CDU/CSU parliamentary secretary Thorsten Frei told the Rheinische Post newspaper: "Less than 24 hours after the government's declaration, the traffic light coalition is cashing in on its chancellor's timetable." Scholz does not have the reins in his hands. "The repeated trickery of the traffic light makes another expert hearing necessary," added Frei. "The sleight of hand players must be closely scrutinized," he continued. This is "the responsibility of parliament".

Given the ongoing delays, the federal consulting firm may need to extend their analysis of the impact of the further delayed final budget vote on various sectors. The current situation necessitates a reevaluation of the initial financial projections for 2024, which was based on the original budget schedule.
