The movie "The Semen of the Holy Fig Tree," directed by Mohammad Rasoulof who recently sought refuge in Germany, is slated to represent Germany in the Academy Awards competition. The selection was made public today by German Films, the organization responsible for promoting German cinema internationally, based in Munich. The film outshone a dozen other potential competitors.

"The Seed of the Holy Fig Tree" chronicles how political uprisings in Iran affect a family. It's described as "an insightful examination of the repressive and paranoid theocracy in Iran" by the jury's statement. Rasoulof skillfully depicts "the fissures within a family symbolizing the fissures within Iranian society." A meticulously planned and emotionally powerful film that leaves a lasting impression with its scenes.

The team behind the movie rejoiced, stating, "This film, which explores themes of suppression but also of hope and resistance, is a testament to the unity of individuals from various backgrounds and migration experiences. It underscores the power of cross-cultural understanding in a liberal and inclusive society."

The selection of Germany's submission is merely one step in a series of events. The 15 candidates for the International Feature Film category will be unveiled on December 17, 2024. From this pool, the five nominees will be chosen and announced on January 17, 2025. Eventually, the Oscar ceremonies will take place on March 2, 2025.

The movie "The Semen of the Holy Fig Tree" has the potential to make history as it represents Germany at the prestigious Oscars, known as The Oscars. If selected among the nominees, it would be an honor for Mohammad Rasoulof and his team, marking a significant achievement in their careers.
